In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the art and tradition of medicinal herbal syrups, with a special focus on preparations traditionally used during cough, cold, sore-throat, and winter wellness season.
You’ll learn:
🌿 What herbal syrups are and their history in traditional herbalism
🌿 The difference between an infusion and a decoction
🌿 Which herbs are traditionally used for coughs, sore throats, respiratory comfort, and seasonal wellness
🌿 How to work with roots, berries, leaves, flowers, and aromatic herbs
🌿 Proper cooking, simmering, steeping, and extraction times
🌿 How to work with herbs such as elderberry, thyme, ginger, marshmallow root, sage, rose hips, cinnamon, and more
🌿 How honey is incorporated into herbal syrups
🌿 How to balance flavor while creating an herbal formula
🌿 Proper bottling, refrigeration, storage, and signs of spoilage
🌿 Important herbal safety considerations and when home remedies are not appropriate
✨ THE HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
Together, we’ll prepare an herbal syrup from start to finish. You’ll see how the herbs change as they simmer and steep, learn why certain plants are added at different stages, and discover how to turn a strong herbal extraction into a finished syrup.
You’ll also explore several traditional syrup formulas, including ideas for:
